After finishing your registration, the next step will be completing your profile. It is one of the most important things to do before applying to any jobs. It will compose of your information and other important related job activities.

To complete your Providers Profile is one of the best ways to attract a possible buyer and convince them to hire you in oDesk. It serves as your resume to prove that you are fully capable of doing the job. So completing it can give you an edge and a better chance of getting hired. Take time to customize your profile as you will benefit a lot once it is properly done.

It took me a week to setup my personal profile. Click here to see it. I finished my Profile with Trial and Error, updating and tweaking some information so that it will look good when a buyer look into it.

Here are some tips on how you can create an effective profile as well as some discussions about the sections you will have to fill out in order to complete your profile.

My Account Summary

This is where you can upload your portrait and set your daily hour rate. You can also track your profile completeness here and see your Job Application Quota.

. . . It istips best to upload a real picture of you rather than fictional pictures.

. . . You may want to lower your hourly rate if you are a newbie in odesk to attract some buyers as you can start increasing it while you earn your odesk experience.

. . . Increase your Job Application Quota by taking some test in odesk.

My Public Profile

You can set your profile access level, create your job title and indicate your English proficiency. Compose your objective to give your profile a more professional look. You can also set the maximum amount of hours you can work for a week. And connect your profile to Facebook and Twitter so your friends and other people can see your profile.

. . . Create tipsa catchy Job Title so that buyers can notice you. A good example would be “Proficient Data Entry Operator Expert in MS Office Suites” or “PHP/MySQL Developer with strong CSS/HTML/Javascript/AJAX skills”.

. . . Write in your Objective why your buyer needs to hire and what searates you from other Providers

Portfolio Projects

Show off your best crafted work here. Upload or link it so that buyers can access your abilities. This is one of the best ways to cater your talents.

tips. . . Make sure that the sample work you will post here is yours and not something that you just copy from others. It is called STEALING!

. . . New Providers can surely benefit here if you are just starting to gain odesk experience.

Employment History

List your past work experiences. You may include your Part-Time Full-Time Jobs, your internship or some voluntary works. This will can support your profile and put some references.

Education

Your Education Degree counts! Although some of the buyers don’t really focus on the providers’ education but rather to their abilities. But still, it is best to include it and who knows it might impress your future buyers.

Certifications

Remember the tests that you take in odesk? You can display your high scoring results here. You can also display the certificates that you earn outside odesk. It can add up to your profile’s integrity.

Skills

Put all the skills that you have. Discuss how proficient and experience you are in those fields. This is your chance to let your buyer knows the exact level of skills that you have.

. . . It is tipsokay to list as many skills as you want, provided that you can do it. You don’t want to embarrass yourself during your interview with your buyer.

. . . First impression lasts. Don’t ever think of putting skills that you don’t posses because it will backfire to you. The result of one bad job could damage the integrity of your profile.

Categories and Job Alerts

Don’t look desperate and be Mr. know it all by choosing every category in the Job List. Just select the category that you excel so that you can focus more.

Other Experiences

Share some unique experiences that you have. Just make sure that it is still related with the job.

Now that you are done with your profile, you can now continue and apply for jobs. Just always keep in mind to be honest in everything that you do.

I hope you learn something new today. There are more articles to come so stick with me. If you find this very useful and informative, I ask you to share it with others.
